Children & Adolescents

Tim has an extensive history of working with children. He began his counseling career in the Texas Tech Pediatric Department of the Amarillo Health Sciences Center. Here Tim worked with children at Northwest Texas Hospital in both the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit focusing on developmental issues with children suffering from head injuries and premature birth.

While employed at the local MHMR Center, Tim was exposed to the world of Play Therapy for the first time. He immediately took an interest in this form of intervention with children and, working under the supervision of a local psychologist and mentor, completed the rigorous requirements to become a certified Play Therapist. He further earned the certification as a Play Therapist Supervisor and began supervising local therapists who shared this interest. While these were national certifications, Tim also earned similar certifications with the International Play Therapy association and began speaking at state and international conferences about his work with children.  While therapists are not required to earn these extra certifications, Tim felt that having this specific training would better prepare him to address the childrens' needs while using a medium that all children enjoyed.

Tim has worked for 19 years with the Head Start program throughout the Texas Panhandle both as a therapist and lead consultant. He continues to work with 3 & 4 year olds specializing in early identification and treatment of mental health issues.

Tim first contracted with the Department of Family and Protective Services back in 1996. Since then, he has seen hundreds of youth living in the foster care system who struggle with the effects of abuse and neglect. He currently contracts with several local placement agencies and is a firm supporter of the foster families with which he is involved.

Tim has consulted and testified in hundreds of court cases associated with child custody issues throughout the last 25 years. He is considered an expert witness and has worked diligently to professionally represent the best interests of children.

Tim worked for 7 years at a local juvenile detention facility.  He is very familiar with the workings of the juvenile probation system and the demands of children experiencing legal difficulties. He worked individually, in groups, and led weekly family therapy meetings at a community based drug and alcohol program serving teens and their families with addiction, abuse, and behavioral difficulties.

Tim has worked with numerous parents of children with anger issues, chronic lying, enuresis (bed wetting), encopresis (soiling), stealing, and a number of other behavioral difficulties. He has seen countless children who have been in therapy before with little or no results and is often consulted regarding the most difficult of behavior problems.
